1. AGRICULTURE — CROPS & CROPPING

  • Seasons: Kharif (monsoon — rice, cotton, bajra, maize), Rabi (winter — wheat, gram, mustard), Zaid (summer — melons, fodder).
  • Cropping patterns & systems: mono/mixed/inter/relay cropping; determinants (rainfall, soil, irrigation, price, MSP).
  • Green/White/Blue/Yellow revolutions; second Green Revolution (eastern India); need for crop diversification away from water-intensive paddy.

2. IRRIGATION, STORAGE, MARKETING

  • Irrigation: major/medium/minor; canal, tank, well/tubewell; micro-irrigation (drip/sprinkler — "Per Drop More Crop"); PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana.
  • Storage & post-harvest: FCI warehousing, cold chains, ~post-harvest losses; buffer stock norms.
  • Marketing: APMC mandis, e-NAM (national e-market), FPOs (farmer producer organisations), contract farming debate, the repealed 2020 farm laws context.

3. MSP, SUBSIDIES, PDS, FOOD SECURITY

  • MSP: recommended by CACP for 23 crops; procurement mainly wheat/rice; debates (legal guarantee, market distortion, fiscal cost).
  • Subsidies: fertiliser (urea/nutrient-based), power, credit, irrigation; issues (skewed use, groundwater depletion, fiscal burden); DBT for fertiliser reform.
  • PDS/NFSA 2013: near-two-thirds population covered; TPDS, One Nation One Ration Card; limitations — leakage, exclusion, nutrition gaps; reform via end-to-end computerisation, DBT-in-kind.
  • Food security: buffer stocks (FCI), decentralised procurement, fortification, PM POSHAN (mid-day meal), Poshan Abhiyaan.

4. e-TECHNOLOGY & ANIMAL HUSBANDRY / FOOD PROCESSING

  • e-tech for farmers: soil health cards, Kisan call centres, agri-apps, remote sensing, precision farming, Agristack; weather advisories.
  • Animal rearing: dairy (largest milk producer — Operation Flood/Amul model), poultry, fisheries (Blue Revolution, PM Matsya Sampada); economics of small-holder livestock as income buffer.
  • Food processing: low level of processing → scope; PM Kisan SAMPADA, PLI for food processing, Mega Food Parks; reduces waste, adds value, creates rural jobs; challenges — supply chain, standards (FSSAI), finance.

5. LAND REFORMS

  • Components: abolition of intermediaries (zamindari), tenancy reform (security, fair rent), land ceilings & redistribution, consolidation of holdings, cooperative farming, land records digitisation (DILRMP/SVAMITVA).
  • Assessment: intermediary abolition largely succeeded; ceiling/redistribution limited; fragmentation persists.

6. INCLUSIVE GROWTH, PLANNING, EMPLOYMENT

  • Inclusive growth: growth that reduces poverty and inequality and creates broad-based opportunity (financial inclusion, skilling, MSMEs, social security).
  • Planning: Planning Commission → NITI Aayog (cooperative federalism, think-tank, no fund allocation).
  • Employment: jobless-growth concern; informal sector (~90%); labour codes (4 codes); gig/platform economy; skilling; PLI-led manufacturing.
  • Resource mobilisation & budgeting: see Economy Notes (taxes, deficits, FRBM, disinvestment).

7. INFRASTRUCTURE & INVESTMENT MODELS

  • Energy: coal (still dominant), oil & gas imports, renewables push (solar, wind, green hydrogen), nuclear, energy security & transition; net-zero 2070.
  • Transport: roads (Bharatmala), railways (dedicated freight corridors, modernisation), ports (Sagarmala), airports (UDAN), inland waterways, PM Gati Shakti (multimodal integration), logistics policy.
  • Investment models: public, private, PPP (BOT, BOOT, HAM — hybrid annuity), viability gap funding, National Infrastructure Pipeline, National Monetisation Pipeline, InvITs; challenges — land, finance, stalled projects, dispute resolution.
